Q&A

Q: What are the Greater Gresham denominational connections?
A: Our church was established as a Southern Baptist mission in 1989. We have continued to cooperate with both state and national Southern Baptist organizations to accomplish together those things that we could not do as well as an individual church, such as support of seminaries, hospitals, Christian colleges, and missions and benevolence agencies. Like all Southern Baptist churches, we are independent and participate with denominational agencies only to the extent that it serves the God-given commission of the Church.

Q: Would Greater Gresham be considered liberal or conservative in its theology?
A: Conservative. However, Greater Gresham seeks not to be legalistic but to approach issues with the biblical balance of both uncompromised standards and God’s grace.

Q: What is the polity of Greater Gresham?
A: Greater Gresham is a congregationally-ruled and Shepherd-led church. The Shepherds are elected by the congregation and have the responsibility to provide spiritual leadership and oversight as delegated to them by the congregation.

Q: How do I join Greater Gresham?
A: You may make an appointment to visit with a Greater Gresham staff member or stop by the Hospitality Center located in the main foyer following any of our worship services.

Q: What is involved in a commitment to church membership at Greater Gresham?
A: Church membership is a covenant relationship between the church and an individual. The church understands that it will seek to help the individual to become a fully-maturing follower of Christ. The individual understands the church’s purpose and is willing to make five commitments:

  1. To become involved in study, fellowship, and care in a Bible Fellowship, Greater Gresham’s small group ministry.
  2. To financially support Greater Gresham’s ministries through tithes and offerings.
  3. To use my abilities to serve in a ministry.
  4. To pray for, witness to, and invite others to come hear about God’s love.
  5. To establish a regular time of personal prayer and Bible study.
